Payments you can bank on Published 07/14/08 By David Battles, Executive Vice President When you create a gift annuity with the Oklahoma United Methodist Foundation, you receive your payments like clockwork. When the payment date rolls around, your check will be in the mail, or if you wish, the money will be transferred to your bank account. For example, John (85) and Mary (83) established a $25,000 gift annuity with the Foundation. Since the gift was irrevocable, they received a charitable income tax deduction in the amount of $11,730. Now, every year for the rest of their lives, John and Mary will receive $1,800 from the Foundation. The amount is based on their ages and annuity rates in force when they obtained the annuity. Since they stipulated quarterly payments, they receive $450 each quarter. It doesn’t matter what happens to the economy or if one of them should pass away. Every quarter, $450. And, over 70 percent of their $450 is tax free! And there’s more. Not only are John and Mary receiving regular, fixed payments for their annuity, they have the satisfaction of knowing that eventually the remainder will be used to support the United Methodist cause or causes of their choice. There are plenty of uncertainties in life . . . but a gift annuity payment from the Foundation is not one of them. And, that is one reason why so many choose the gift annuity to accomplish their philanthropic goals. Would you like to learn more about this popular gift vehicle?
